CrauforD Cabernet Franc 'Piper Doon'
VINTAGE NOTES
In 2023, Napa Valley experienced one of the longest growing seasons in a decade or more. With consistent, mild weather throughout the season, above-average crop yields, and extended hang time, 2023 is an exceptional, high-quality, memorable vintage. Full ripeness of grape skins and seeds provided the building blocks for a tannic backbone which is the source of resilience for a long-lived wine. The 2023 vintage is showing as freshness, purity and elegance overall.
Winemaking Notes
All individual blocks were hand-picked and fermented separately. The fruit was
destemmed, and berry-sorted on the crush pad. Fermentation lasted 16 days, with the wine drained and pressed
at dryness. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrels. The wine was aged in oak barrels for 22 months,
gently racked and returned every 4 months to promote evolution of the tannin structure and complexity.
Tasting Notes
I find bright red fruit flavors, spicy and herbal notes, and medium-bodied structure. This
wine has wonderful aromas of raspberry, cherry, bell pepper, and tobacco, with a refreshing acidity, moderate
tannins, a beautifully balanced midpalate and a long finish.
