They Can’t Take That Away From Me
[Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong]
✍️ Wine Notes : Vintage 2015 in Napa Valley was unique, characterised by a cold spring bloom, early harvest, low yield, and small berries. These characteristics, and the several years of drought leading up to 2015 resulted in fantastically concentrated wines of depth and structure, many of which needed additional bottle aging time to come into balance. The 2015 vintage, reminded me of wine styles from back in the late 1980s and early 1990s when I started working in the cellar. With ten years of aging behind it and 30-60 minutes in a decanter, a breath of fresh air, this wine is tasting magnificent right now, displaying deep structure, dark yet elegant blackberry, cassis and mocha aromas, robust mouthfeel, rich texture and long finish.
2015 was our dad’s final harvest, and I couldn’t be more pleased and proud of how this wine has developed and aged in his honor!
🎶 Music Notes : Ella Fitzgerald’s vocals are flowing, silky, resonant. Blended with Louis Armstrongs bright, staccato trumpet, the song flows like a deep river that is slow in the middle but cascading in the rocks on the edges. The lyrics suggest something wonderful and timeless, that can never be taken away from you … like a winemaker’s library wine.
“The memory of all that
No, no, they can’t take that away from me”
