⏳Our dad purchased 15 acres of the historic State Lane Vineyard in Yountville more than 40 years ago.

🛠️ The State Lane Vineyard has been a foundational component of many of the Reserve, and Estate Cabernet Sauvignons I have made over the last several decades. It is also the single source for the robust and full bodied single vineyard State Lane bottlings made over this time frame.

⛰️ I’ve always thought of this vineyard as a ‘mountain vineyard on the valley floor’ … the grapes are so small and concentrated, they are very similar in this regard to the mountain vineyards that Julianna and I have worked on together.

🫐 The small berries create a higher skin to juice ratio, which lends itself to crafting very dense and concentrated wines, inky in color, with deep texture and robust tannins.

👣 I walked the vineyard this morning sampling the grapes, and I had a moment in the field to reflect on my 39th consecutive vintage in Napa Valley and the State Lane Vineyard, starting as a Cellar Rat at 16, and continuing on to chart new and paths forward this vintage.
